Bio

Chloe Merwin is an american visual artist studying Computer Animation at Ringling College of Art and Design. Although she has been drawing ever since she was very young, Chloe was not entirely sure that she wanted to be an artist at first. Aside from visual art, Chloe was also exposed to acting in theatre productions from a young age as a result of her schools being so involved in the arts growing up. She participated in both local theatre productions as well as school productions, and also took up singing to accommodate for her roles in musicals. When it came time for her to choose a major at the new school she would be attending, Chloe had a tough time deciding between acting and visual arts. As she learned more about different art forms, Chloe realized that animation was a form of art that combined acting with visual design. This new interest in animation led her to Ringling. Thanks to her background in observational drawing from Interlochen Arts Academy, Chloe was able to secure a spot in the class of 2023 as a Computer Animation Major at Ringling, and has been learning all there is to know about computer-generated imagery and animated story-making.

Chloe’s artwork focuses on intriguing character design and personality. When it comes to animation, Chloe follows a policy of balancing exaggeration with more subtle acting moments to ensure that the actions are clear, as well as to keep the audience engaged. This policy stems from Chloe’s background as an actress, with animation allowing her to continue her passion of acting without being on display personally, and instead acting through a computer generated puppet. She has been in eight musical productions and taken several acting classes throughout her life, which has come to aid her in being an effective animator. She believes that an understanding of acting and believable exaggeration is essential to being a great animator.

Chloe is not only an artist, but also a baker, dog-lover, and self-declared organization specialist. To see more of her artwork (or her dogs) her artist instagram username is @chloe_mercedes_ and the best way to contact her is through her email merwin.chloe@gmail.com
