Character Design and Visual Development Portfolio
This is a collection of my character design projects, as well as other visual development works.

This project was developed to be a short computer animated film, but ultimately was not chosen to go through production. However, these characters and world were fun to create and play with!
Project #2
"Heart Of Stone"

Brief Synopsis
"Heart Of Stone" follows the story of the monster, "Medusa," from Greek mythology. However, in this story, Medusa is a 5-year-old child about to enter her first day of monster kindergarten. The only problem is, her attempts to make friends with the other monsters keep ending with them all turning to stone when she looks at them... So she has to make many creative attempts to hide her eyesight as she makes friends!

This story features stylized monster characters with an emphasis on Greek-like structures and fantasy elements. The story is meant to tug on heartstrings, as well as make people laugh, so I attempted to aid that goal through the designs of the characters.

Early Development
At the beginning of the project, I knew the story would revolve around a kindergarten for mythical creatures. To start, I did some rough vignette sketches to try and find interesting or funny concepts for the story.
From there, the idea of Medusa trying to make friends, but turning them all to stone, is what stuck the most and thus became the developed story. I then thought, who could Medusa actually be friends with, without having to hide her true self? I came up with two options-- a gargoyle (since he would already be made of stone), or the three fates from Greek mythology (as they are blind). However, because I would have been executing the entire short film on my own, I opted for the single-character option-- the gargoyle boy!

Finding the Characters
Tying everything down
Now that I knew what I wanted my characters to look like, It was time to add props and environments!
